“The Bond: Connecting Through the Space Between Us” by Lynne McTaggart
Entangled Pairs of Photons at the Intersections
If I were to pick just three books to help people understand what we are doing in SourcePoint Therapy® these would be the three, and they are all by the same author, Lynne McTaggart:
The Field: The Quest for the Secret Force of the Universe
The Intention Experiment
The Bond: Connecting through the Space Between Us
Each book presents a highly readable and interesting synthesis of scientific research into energy fields, the relationship of body and mind, the nature of the universal energy, the power of intention, and many other areas that relate very much to what we are doing in the practice of energy medicine, particularly SourcePoint Therapy. For example, here’s a quote from The Field in which McTaggart speaks about the Blueprint:
“What they [respected scientists] have discovered is nothing less than astonishing. At our most elemental, we are not a chemical reaction, but an energetic charge. Human beings and all living things are a coalescence of energy in a field of energy connected to every other thing in the world. This pulsating energy field is the central engine of our being and our consciousness, the alpha and omega of our existence.
There is no ‘me’ and ‘not-me’ duality to our bodies in relation to the universe, but one underlying energy field. This field is responsible for our mind’s highest functions, the information source guiding the growth of our bodies. It is our heart, our brain, our memory — indeed, a blueprint of the world for all time. The field is the force, rather than germs or genes, that finally determines whether we are healthy or ill, the force which must be tapped in order to heal.”
Thank you, Ben Hanawalt, for introducing me to the The Bond, which is McTaggart’s latest book, that, to quote its jacket blurb, “challenges the very way we conceive of ourselves and the world. The Bond shows that the essential impulse of all life is a will to connect rather than a drive to compete.”
The book doesn’t challenge my view of myself and the world; it wonderfully supports it with page after page of fascinating research and expert opinion! So, today, the rest of this post is devoted to excerpts from The Bond.
“Quantum physicists now recognize that the universe is not a collection of things jostling around in empty space. All matter exists in a vast quantum web of connection, and a living thing at its most elemental is an energy system involved in a constant transfer of information with its environment.”
That, succinctly stated, is the fundamental premise of SourcePoint Therapy! We assume the environment to include the information of Order, Balance, Harmony and Flow present in the universal energy field: the Blueprint.
“The world essentially operates, not through the activity of individual things, but in the connection between them — in a sense, in the space between things… This connection –the space in between — holds the key to the life of every organism, from subatomic particles to large-scale societies, and also the key to our viable future.”
““The most basic property of matter, its sense of being a solid ‘something,’ is only and entirely due to the Bond between subatomic particles and the background sea of energy. A subatomic ‘particle’ is simply the seeking of a connection in the space between a big web of energy and a little knot of energy. You and everything around you are simply a collection of charged energy having a relationship.”
Connection, connection, connection. Connection as the fundamental reality of the universe: what makes it all work. It’s our birthright and our true nature.
“Wheeler’s most outrageous speculation attempted to understand the biggest mystery posed by quantum physics. The pioneers of quantum physics had demonstrated in their experiments that the only thing that seems to transform the potential something of a subatomic particle into something solid and measurable was the involvement of an observer. As soon as the scientists took a closer look at a subatomic particle by taking a measurement, the subatomic entity that existed as pure potential would “collapse” into one particular state.
The fact that a subatomic particle settles down to a set single state only when measured and observed suggested a staggering possibility to many scientists: the role of the scientist himself–or the role of living consciousness — somehow is the influence that turns the smallest elements of life into something real. This implies that the universe is a joint venture between the observing consciousness and the observed; it requires the consciousness of the observer to bring that which is observed into being.”
This point of quantum physics has always fascinated me and taken me on many journeys. What if somehow by simply holding the points we are “observing” the potential of perfect health for the human being and assisting it to manifest? Or, if we assume that the stuff of the universe is sentient consciousness, observing itself to bring itself into being, what if in some way the Blueprint observes us? What if as we connect with it, it focuses its attention on the potential of health within us and brings that into being? McTaggart quotes physicist Richard Feynman: the role of the observer is “the mystery which cannot go away.”
Experts in one field or another will often dismiss any attempt to correlate energy medicine and the findings of quantum physics, on the grounds that the laws of quantum physics do not apply to the material world. In our current consensus reality, this may be true, but it is also possible we have much to learn about our potential from the quantum reality; much to learn about our essential nature. Perhaps as we observe these realities, become conscious of them, the boundaries between quantum and material will begin to shift. I like to imagine the Points in this way, as doorways between dimensions, perhaps “points” literally at which the quantum world and this one intersect.
McTaggart references experiments by Graham Fleming, who is “making some of the first tentative forays into ‘quantum biology,’ producing the first evidence that life on earth is driven by the laws of quantum physics, and his experiment is necessarily crude.” You can read about the experiment at the beginning of the first chapter, page 3. It’s an investigation into the efficiency of energy production in plants, “how a simple living system like a plant can generate the world’s oxygen and carbohydrates through a reaction powered by the electricity that it essentially creates from light.”
The experiment involves tracking the path of electron energy inside the protein scaffolding of the cell. The result? “Rather than a single pathway, the energy reaches its target by trying out several routes simultaneously. Only when the final connection is made and the end of the road reached does the energy track its most efficient course–retroactively–and the energy follow that single path. It appears as if the optimum route were chosen backward in time, after all possibilities have been exhausted.”
McTaggart says of this: “If the results of Fleming’s experiments are verified — and others have now successfully carried out the experiment on real plants at room temperatures–this will mean that the most fundamental process of the universe, the process responsible for life on earth, is driven by a mechanism that actually isn’t anything at all, at least according to our usual definition of things. The electron driving photosynthesis is a will o’ the wisp, impossible to pin down or locate with precision. Fleming’s experiment also lays bare a much larger possibility: that all life is created and sustained by something so ephemeral we may not even be able to identify what it actually is, much less locate where it is with precision.”
Given the nature of scientific research these days, and what is being discovered, it’s shortsighted of people to dismiss energy medicine as “impossible” and “unscientific,” and to assume that what is being discovered at the quantum level is inapplicable to our everyday lives. Today’s impossibility is tomorrow’s possibility is the next day’s reality. At the quantum level that whole progression would take less than milliseconds –but, here it still takes time. Centuries even, once upon a time. The process seems to be accelerating even in this world 🙂
So, this is a book for opening the mind, and wandering in the quantum realm. I invite you to journey in the mystery and possibility of the universe that is our home. And, after the journey, there you are, just as you are, with things to do and people to see, but with an expanded awareness of realities beyond the visible…
